Joe trained as a stone mason at York College. During his training he received an award from the Masonic province of Yorkshire North and East craft lodges for most improved banker Mason
From his studio in Patly bridge, Joe first creates the sculpture in clay for his bronze sculptures which are then cast using the lost wax method.
Joe also sculpts in stone and marble, his first public art work ‘Pillars Past’ represents the history of Nidderdale in three life like stone figures .This Striking installation can be seen on the old railway turntable in Pateley Bridge.
His latest Equine study collection consists of four horse heads cast in bronze mounted on burr elm at a 1/3 life size scale. Each composition depicts a different aspect of the animals characteristic - Grace, Pride , Might, Wisdom.The final piece to the collection will be carved in fine white Carrara marble on a larger scale. Each has an edition of 12 apart from Wisdom which is of 6.
