Based in County Durham Paul uses an old woodland cottage as his studio, where he creates wonderfully atmospheric semi-representational landscapes of the moors and woods near where he lives. Using a working method of ‘etching’ into the paint, he manages to create details such as animal tracks and old mining scars in a way that echo the spirt of the place, or as Paul call it, the ‘memory of landscape’. When Paul recently visited the Barefoot for the first time, we knew instantly we were meeting an artist of real quality. An emerging artist to watch.
