David J Markham was born in the Lancashire Mill town of Brierfield, in the North of England, in July 1963.
Educated at Walton High School, Nelson & Colne College and Preston Polytechnic he graduated with a 2:1 in Business Studies in 1984. He subsequently pursued a career in Marketing with amongst others, General Foods, BP and Booker. Latterly working within the Fish industry at Grimsby, England.
A self taught artist his influences span both art and music. Having witnessed at first hand the energy of the punk and post punk movements he has played in many bands throughout the North of England. The creative seam runs deep and the combination of the punk ethos and artistic influence of Steadman, Piper, Simonon, Warhol, Mackintosh, Ray Lowry and Jean Jansem to name but a few, have helped create some compelling work.
Adopting pen and wash as the medium, the paintings reflect a mix of contemporary images based on new and old buildings/iconic subject matters. They help to define who we are and our view of the world.
